A gold ring's melt value depends on three things: its karat (purity), its weight, and the live gold spot price. Most rings are 10K, 14K, or 18K. A typical band weighs roughly 2-8 grams, though heavier signet and men's rings can weigh much more.

How to calculate gold ring value
- Weigh the item. Use a digital gram or pennyweight scale. Heavier, solid pieces give the most reliable estimate.
- Select the metal and purity. Pick gold, silver, or platinum, then choose the karat or fineness. Use Custom to enter an exact percentage.

A 5-gram 14K ring holds about $374.90 in melt value at a $4,000 spot (5 ? 31.1035 ? 0.583 ? $4,000). Heavier rings or higher karats are worth more.
Does the calculator include the diamond or stones?
No. The estimate is for gold metal content only. Gemstones may add value separately but are not part of melt value.
How do I find my ring's karat?
Look inside the band for a stamp such as 10K, 14K, 18K, or 417/585/750. If it is unstamped or unclear, testing can confirm the purity.
Should I weigh the ring with the stone in it?
For the most accurate melt estimate, the stone's weight should be excluded if possible. Small accent stones have little effect; large stones can noticeably skew the weight.
