What SpotCalc is

SpotCalc (also at SpotCalc Pro) is a free precious metals calculator that estimates the melt value of gold, silver, and platinum from weight, purity, and the live spot price. It is built for precious-metal dealers, jewelers, pawnbrokers, coin buyers, and anyone who needs a fast, reliable metal estimate.

The calculator runs entirely in your browser, works offline once loaded, and never sends your weights or calculations to a server. There is no account to create and no cost to use it.

Where our spot prices come from

Live gold, silver, platinum, and palladium spot prices are sourced from gold-api.com and refreshed automatically while the page is open. You can always edit the spot price field to match your own quote or a different market source before calculating.

Spot prices move constantly during market hours. SpotCalc shows the most recent price it has fetched, along with a timestamp, so you know how current the figure is.

How estimates are calculated

Every estimate uses the same transparent formula: weight in troy ounces ? purity ? spot price. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams, and one pennyweight (dwt) is one twentieth of a troy ounce. Purity is set by the karat or fineness you choose, and you can override it with a custom percentage.

Melt value is the raw metal value. A payout percentage can be applied separately to model a buying offer, since dealers typically pay a portion of melt to cover refining, risk, and margin.
